individual needs of all our students.  Please feel free to visit us often!

Elwood Community School Corporation Welcomes Transfers

Elwood Community School Corporation welcomes applications for students interested in transferring to any of our schools beginning second semester.  Transfers are tuition free if submitted by January 31, 2016.  Classes begin January 5, 2016.

Begin your child’s educational experiences with developmentally appropriate practices at our licensed preschool/daycare as early as age three at the Reichart Early Learning Center at Elwood Elementary School.  Four year old children attend preschool absolutely free of charge and daycare is offered at very affordable prices.  CCDF vouchers are accepted as well.  The center is open from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. and is a Level 3 Center with Paths to Quality.  This will then lead to a very experienced staff which will provide differentiated instruction to children kindergarten through grade two.  High ability classes, STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) projects are offered as well as remediation in small group settings in an environment where your child will be known by name.  There is also before and after school care for children preschool through grade six.

Classes in grades 3-6 extend those experiences for accelerated learning and remediation along with sports, fine arts and extracurricular opportunities.  Elwood Intermediate School offers a wide variety of quality programs to meet the needs of each student.  We have a highly qualified faculty to serve the academic needs of our students and a support staff who is here to help provide a safe and caring environment for each individual who is part of our school community.  Our curriculum is data driven and focuses on student achievement.  We have high expectations for each student.  We expect students to attend school regularly, put forth an effort in each classroom, and be respectful of the rights of each individual in our school community.  Additionally, we believe in the Panther 3-R’s being respectful, responsible, and always ready to learn!

Learning opportunities continue for grades 7-12 at Elwood Junior-Senior High School.  Faculty and staff at EJSHS use the research-based eight-step instructional process focusing on individual student mastery of Indiana’s College & Career Readiness Standards.  Honors classes in math & language arts are offered in grades 7-10.  Dual credit and AP courses are available to students in grades 10-12.  College bound students have the opportunity to leave EJSHS with up to 30 college credits through partnerships with Ivy Tech State College and Indiana University.  Additional dual credit opportunities are forthcoming.  Push-in classes co-taught by a content specialist and special education teacher are designed to support students who struggle in a particular subject area.  Junior high students have exploratory elective rotations in art, computers, family & consumer science, industrial technology, health & physical education, and music.  Elective opportunities for high school students are chosen by the student from a list of courses available to fulfill state and local college & career pathways geared towards preparing students for a specific post-high school career or college major path.  Extracurricular opportunities in clubs, sports, and fine arts programs add to the overall student experience.  Elwood Junior-Senior High School is accredited by AdvancED, a national organization for evaluating schools’ effectiveness as well as by the Indiana Department of Education.

Hinds Career Center, located in Elwood, is the region’s career-technical education center. Students in grades 10-12 have the opportunity to explore and/or expand science, technology and engineering skills in career pathways including automotive, advanced manufacturing, health careers, criminal justice, visual and graphic communications, and business management through laboratory and work-based activities. Hinds Career Center is accredited by AdvancEd, a national organization for evaluating schools’ effectiveness. Hinds is also ranked in the top 6 career centers in Indiana by the IN Department of Workforce Development based on its student performance and results.
